Manchester United are not prepared to sell Ander Herrera this summer and have told Barcelona it would take a bid of at least £60million for them to even consider letting him go.

The Red Devils see the Spaniard as a potential future captain as Jose Mourinho reportedly weighs up a number of players in contention to replace Wayne Rooney as skipper next season.

Herrera shone for United in a new defensive midfield role last season, and has now emerged as a possible target for Barcelona as they seek to strengthen in that part of the pitch.

The Catalan giants would prefer to land their priority target, Marco Verratti from Paris Saint-Germain, but have set aside around £35m to move for Herrera as a backup option.

However, the Independent claim that United would want close to double that to let the 27-year-old, who is a big part of their future.

While Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick are also seen as potential candidates to replace Rooney as captain, Herrera is also up there after showing his passion and leadership on the pitch last season.
